In 2002 Meyer Janet enlisted Barry Herman, his friend and fellow chorister from their native South Africa, to establish the Atlanta Jewish Male Choir. Through word of mouth they were able over time to recruit sufficient members to do justice to the complex multipart musical arrangements.

Many months of hard practicing followed, at least once a week for two hours at a time, until they were ready to perform in public. After a number of smaller community events the choir staged its first concert at Ahavath Achim in September of 2003. Fifteen hundred people attended and the concert was a huge success for the choir, the community, and for the designated charity.
Since then the choir has participated in at least one annual major concert in Atlanta. It has sung at numerous weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs and traveled to Savannah for a shabbaton. Several choir members have also started a weekly Friday night choir minyan at Congregation Beth Tefillah.
